Terrazas de los Andes (named after the steep terraces at the foot of the Andes mountains) is one of Argentina’s top producers. You’ve got to be pretty flash to get nestled under the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy umbrella of wine producers.
Since 1999 they’ve been part of this exclusive, fancy pants list of wineries that includes world class producers like Cape Mentelle, Chandon and our very own Cloudy Bay. And while Sauvignon Blanc was the grape that put NZ on the world wine map (thanks to Cloudy Bay), the Argies have taken Malbec under their wing as their wine growing speciality.
This is the latest 2023 vintage with the previous four vintages making Wine Spectator’s Top 10 Value Wines of the Year list!
As the Wine Spectator judges explain “Spotlighting the best-priced wines of the year, the list features bottles that are rated 90 points or higher on Wine Spectator’s 100-point scale, cost $40 or less and are made in large enough quantities to be widely available.
“For the fourth consecutive year, our editors have selected their top values of the past 12 months. From Sonoma to Tuscany to Mendoza, the wines on this list all showcase top-tier winegrowing regions at their most budget-friendly, each of them finding a way to overdeliver on quality for the price. We are pleased to present a selection of wines that are as affordable as they are delicious.”
This is exactly why we love Malbec – medium bodied, plush and packed with ripe cherry fruit flavours. And like most Malbecs it’s a wine that stands up to any meat dish you can throw at it – beef, game, lamb, sausages, the lot! But if you want to really win over the guests at your next dinner party try pairing it with a white chocolate and red berry flan with dark chocolate parfait!
