Caravan Petite Sirah

Another seriously good Caravan Petit Sirah release! Made by the king of value for money reds (John Quarisa aka Johnny Q aka the man behind blockbuster labels like Shot in the Dark and 30 Mile!) this is a Trophy, TRIPLEe Gold medal winning, 4-Star Cuisine recommended, incredibly delicious Aussie red for a snip over $15!

This is Caravan Petite Sirah, the grape is also known as Durif, and if you haven’t the foggiest about Petit Sirah or Durif don’t sweat it. Just know this is a full bodied, flavoured packed red packing a punch at 14.5%! If you love Shiraz or Syrah you’ll fall in love with this style.

Petit Sirah is a style that’s on the rise big time. In fact there’s even a hardcore following of Petite Sirah slurpers that have set up their own advocacy group  called “PS – I Love You”.

Caravan is absolutely packed to the rafters with rich, dark berry fruit flavours, a dark inky colour with a touch of spice in there too. As like previous vintages it’s already reigning in the gongs…

This latest 2021 release of Caravan is one of the best in recent years in our opinion and yet again can only be described as a monster mouthful of fruit! The sheer bang for buck here didn’t get unnoticed by wine writer Michael Cooper either.

Writing in his regular column for the NZ Listener Michael scored it 4 1/2 Stars and said “Is this the most full-bodied, flavour-packed Aussie red on the market for less than $20? From a grape variety also known as durif, it is dark and robust. Its deep, ripe, red berry and spice flavours are braced by firm tannins. Gutsy and a bit rustic but full of personality, it’s a steal. (14.5% alc/vol) $15-$20”
