Penfolds and Pinot Noir? You better believe it. Best known as a world class producer of cellar worthy, collectable Australian Shiraz and Cabernet but increasingly they’ve put focus on other varieties from other regions and in some cases other countries.

Since the mid 90s Penfolds have been producing Pinot with this Penfolds Bin 23 Pinot Noir label first released in 2009. It’s named Bin 23 after the ‘Cellar 23’ at their iconic Magill Estate.

To produce quality Pinot in Aussie you’ve got to head to the cooler climate regions like Victoria, Adelaide Hills, the Hunter Valley and Tasmania, which is where Penfolds source the fruit for this one.

This is the latest 2024 release of Bin 23 and, in their own words, Penfolds call it “An unashamedly Penfolds Pinot Noir”. Here’s what some other Aussie critics had to say…

92/100 & Top Rank Award (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“Smoky strawberry aromas, clean and typical. Medium intensity flavour, again quite savoury with smoky, earthy, mushroom-stocky flavours, not especially fruit-sweet and the tannins are fine and powdery. A pinoty pinot—not overtly bunchy or reductive or funky! And very good. (all Tasmanian fruit)”

94/100 (James Halliday’s Wine Companion)
“Light cherry red with vibrant red plum and cherry fruits suffused with exotic spice notes, pomegranate and hints of purple flowers, tea cake, rhubarb, dried mushrooms, meadow herbs and earth. Purely fruited and leaning towards savoury on the back end with fine tannin and a medium length finish. It is in lovely space now and will repay cellaring over the medium term.”

Find out why there’s an increasing interest in Tazzy Pinot Noir – especially when it’s got the backing of a class producer like Penfolds! Pair this one with duck, lamb and game meat dishes. Drink now to 2035.
