Wolfgang Franz Otto Blass (you know him as Wolf Blass) is the German born boy who chucked in school at the age of 15 and was told to either get his arse back to school or start a 3 year apprentice with a wine business. “Wolfie” made the call and in 1966 kicked off what is now undoubtedly one of Aussie’s benchmark wine labels.
Keeping things nice and simple (probably because he left school at 15) Wolf Blass has kindly colour coded his wines. The Yellow Label (not to be confused with the Gold label) has to be one of the most reliable, bang for buck mainstream Aussie wine labels around.
It didn’t take long for their new 2013 Shiraz to bag a Gold medal (and “Best Value” too) in one of the biggest shows on the Asian wine award circuit – the China Wine & Spirits Awards 2015.
A pure fruit driven style Shiraz, ideal to pair with all sorts of tucker – casseroles, roast beef, veal, lamb and aged cheddar cheese. Or if it’s the weekend takeaway how about cracking it open with a gourmet beef burger?
