Sorry, the guys at Waipara Hills are no longer making this wine. Sad face.

Cruise north of Christchurch for half an hour or so and you’ll hit the Waipara Valley wine making region. The Waipara Hills vineyard boasts some pretty stunning views of the mountains, hills and valleys it neighbours.

They’ve got a café on site serving food and platters and if you hit ’em during the summer months you might catch one of their mean summer gigs. Oh, and the wines are pretty bloody good value too!

“Gewurz” literally means “spice” in German and if you’re looking for the right wine for that spicy Asian cuisine this weekend you’re in the right place. Finding decent Gewurz at an everyday price ain’t easy, but this label has proven over the years it’s up to the task.

We’ll save you the waffle about aromas of rose petals, feijoas and all the other wine lingo that leaves you wondering if you’re in a fruit shop or florist. Here’s the deal – it’s a medium bodied, moreishly rich white that needs to be served slightly chilled and absolutely paired with spicy cuisine, especially Thai, Indian or Chinese!

    The Lowdown: 13.5% alc / 750ml / Screwcap
