A shipment of Waimea Sauvignon Blanc 2019 from Nelson (and more specifically the Waimea Plains down there in sunny old Nelson) was destined for North America but now surplus to requirements means the winery is (reluctantly and definitely temporarily!) dropping the price to move the stock.
And when we say drop the price, we mean a near nose dive on price! On the winery’s website you’ll pay $22.00 per bottle, typically you’d find it on shelves around the $18-20 mark on special. So clearly this $11.99 price is something to get giddy about.
Marlborough might get all the headlines when it comes to Sauv, but Nelson is a region hot on its heels and the guys at Waimea have a seriously impressive tracking record. This ’19 release has a swag of top awards and reviews to back it up…
Gold medal (Sydney Int’l Wine Comp 2020)
Gold medal (Concours Mondial Du Sauvignon 2020)
5 Stars, 94/100 (Sam Kim)
92/100 & Top Value (Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review)
4 Stars (Michael Cooper)
Silver medal (Royal Easter Wine Awards 2020)
Silver medal (Mundus Vini, Germany 2020)
Silver medal (Int’l Wine Challenge, London 2019)
Scoring this 92/100 and a pick as a “Top Value” award winner Master of Wine Bob Cambell called it a “A vibrant, flavoursome wine” and reckons you could comfortably slurp this Sauvy until 2023.
We thought for the money this wine will knock your socks off! It’s loaded to the gunnels with aromatic tropical fruit flavours, not going over the top with the acidity with a super refreshing, dry finish.
Deals like this don’t come along every week so we jumped into it boots ‘n’ all – taking every last pallet the winery had. Go hard and grab a case or two while you can – heck, make it three and we’ll deliver to your door for free!
