Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin – also known as Madame Clicquot, Widow Clicquot and Veuve Clicquot (Veuve means ‘Widow’ in French). This legendary woman took over her husband’s wine business when she became a widow aged just 27 and from there helped turn this world wide Champagne juggernaut into what it is today.
Clicquot only release their vintage label in exceptional years – and 2008 was just that! This is the first time since the 2004 vintage this wine has been released (and only the third time in a decade) and what a belter it is! Around 5% of the wine was aged in French oak to add complexity and as Decanter magazine put it – “This is only in the first phase of a long life“. Until when you ask? Try around 2030!
This is the one Clicquot lovers have been waiting for! It comes presented in the kind of stylish gift box we come to expect of the world’s coolest Champagne brand. If you’re wanting the ideal food match try fish, seafood or a young parmesan cheese.
Note: This bottle has been carefully stored in our temperature controlled wine cellar.
