Tohu (pronounced tor-who) are Aotearoa’s first Maori owned wine company. This is their fancy looking and extremely fancy tasting Whenua range – Ngā hua a te whenua, our gift from the land.
These are their single vineyard wines and they put their best foot forward on anything labelled under the Whenua series (individual barrel assessment in the winery to make sure only the best fruit makes it). Using fruit from the Upper Moutere region in Nelson and specifically their Ika and Matua blocks.
All the winemaking TLC goes into a label like this. Carefully selected, hand harvested fruit, wild fermented using yeast naturally found in the vineyard, monthly batonage (also called lees stirring) with only the very best barrels selected for the final blend.
A richly textured, complex and full flavoured style – a classy single vineyard Nelson Chardonnay with a proven track record. Drink now to 2028.
