“One should not forget other global locations. There was a delightful, vibrant un-oaked Malbec from Stonehaven in South Australia” – Drinks Business Global Malbec Masters.

The Drinks Business Global Malbec Masters is a global wine competition hosted by Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers specifically to find the world’s best Malbecs. With 34 Gold medals dished out over 80% of them were to Argentina and Chile with just one from Australia…this was it! And then when we saw it coming in under the $20 radar we thought this was well worth a closer look!

Make no mistake – this is a dark and inky Malbec absolutely bursting with flavour! Unsurprisingly it’s had thumbs up from critics on both sides of the ditch too…

92/100, Top Value Award & Top Rank Award (Stuart Knox, The Real Review)
“Big and intense on entry with black fruits, bitumen, anise and mint all exploding across the palate….Loads of wine here at a great price. It’s best served with rich protein.”

92/100 (Ken Gargett, The Wine Pilot)
“This drinks well over its price”.

90/100 & Special Value Award (James Halliday’s Wine Companion)
“A real mix of heady blackberries, wild raspberries and licorice allsorts.”

93/100 (Sam Kim)
“This is enticing with rich fruit intensity, showing blackcurrant, dark plum, warm spice and roasted hazelnut aromas, followed by a succulent palate that’s velvety and smooth.”

Located in South Australia’s Limestone Coast region, Stonehaven are best known for being producers of classy Cabernet and Shiraz but they’ve flipped the script with this eye-catching Malbec! Produced using fruit from two vineyards in the Padthaway and Mundulla sub regions.

Drink now to 2030 and pair with a good hearty slab of meat!
