Barossa Blockbuster in the house! This is the Sister’s Run Bethlehem Block Barossa Cabernet 2022 – just landed in NZ off the back of a global haul of bling including a massive Trophy at the International Wine Challenge in London, THREE Gold medals and a Real Review Top Value Award!

Winner Trophy for Champion Barossa Cabernet beating off stiff competition at one of the world’s biggest wine shows judged by over 500 experts – “The quality has never been higher than this year” they said.

Winning the Trophy, Gold medal and a whopper 96/100 score the IWC Judges said “Floral black fruit aromas with a leafy green streak. Powerful yet balanced on the palate, with sleek, bright fruit, smoky depth and refreshing acidity – a beautiful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon.”

Award winning winemaker Elena Brooks wears steel cap boots to work every day but carries a pair of high heels in the ute for emergencies. Y’know, like the last minute invite to receive yet another Trophy or Gold medal for her award winning wines!

Returning from a mid vintage knees-up she managed to kick off a heel and slip back into her trusty work boot – to which the rest of the team yelled “Run Sister, Run!”.

Elena is the founder and winemaker behind the massively successful Dandelion Vineyards label and she’s just one of many talented ladies that make up the Sister’s Run label – Alexandra, Barbara, Bernice, Dani, Daria, Geri, Helen, Jessica, Leisa, Margie, Maree, Sophie, Stefka and their honorary sisters Encho, Jackson, Lance, Todor and Zar.

As Elena puts its “We don’t take ourselves as seriously as we take our wines…The truth is in the vineyard and the proof is in the glass”.

This is a big, full bodied Barossa Cabernet with lashings of lush, dark fruit. It really is a Cabernet for Shiraz lovers!

As for the food match, well, we’re 100% on board with their recommendation. “Barossan cabernet with a firm hand on the tiller. This red wine is a kind of luxury in the world of cabernet’s tendency to dourness. Yet whilst there’s the generosity of fruit flavour there’s not the lack of tannin and requisite acidity; the wine remains – under the hand on the tiller – evenly keeled. Steak Anglais, with English Mustard. Devilled Kidneys? Croque Monsieur. No: a good Steak au Poivre with mash would be best.”
