Named after a natural spring that pops up in their Rapaura vineyard there in Marlborough. They’re a name that’s been popping up on the radars of wine scribblers, judges, critics and (most importantly) wine lovers across the world.
This is Rapaura Spring’s “Rohe” series which means territory in Maori. They’ve selected special sites within key sub regions of Marlborough like Dillons Point, Blind River, Rapaura, Awatere and the Southern Valleys, which is where this Chardonnay was produced.
This is the 2024 vintage of Rohe Chardonnay and just to add some more Gold to their fancy new Gold design label is a Gold medal winner at both the NZ International Wine Show and Marlborough Wine Show in 2025!
It also scored 93/100 with Cam Douglas MS who said “There’s no mistaking the style and power of this wine with a bouquet of barrel spices and ripe orchard fruits. Aromas of vanilla and baked goods framing a core of peach and apple with a grapefruit peel suggestion. Lots of weight and creaminess, spice and fruits on the palate set in a dry style with fine tannins and medium+ acid line. Lovely balance and length, still youthful with ageing and development potential. Best drinking from early 2026 through 2029.”
It was a cracker vintage and the Rapaura Springs crew were pretty head over heels with it too – “this is some of the cleanest fruit we have ever harvested from this sub-region.”
