Rapaura Springs Rohe Blind River Sauvignon Blanc

One of the hottest Sauvignon Blancs to lay your mits on right now! This is the wine that just made global headlines as a “Best In Show” and 97/100 winner at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London! It was one only two New Zealand wines to win this amazing gong.

Winning Best In Show with a 97/100 rating which is an absolutely incredible achievement! Winning Best In Show at the DWWA is no easy road that’s for sure. After joining over 18,000 other wines they are then awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze –  the rest are shown the door! Then the best of the best go toe-to-toe to determine the Platinum award winners. THEN, the Platinum award winners go to head-to-head to discover the overall Best In Show winners, the top 50 wines from the entire competition.

Or let’s put it another way – top 50 from over 18,000 is just 0.002% of all wines entered got a Best In Show Award!

The judges at the DWWA in London had this to say. “This is the sixth Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to feature in our Best In Show selection – and of those six, half have carried an Awatere Valley origin, suggesting that this may prove to be one of the finest of Marlborough’s sub-regions. This is a hugely impressive wine. Silver in colour, it has arresting vitality and energy on the nose, but unusual complexity, too: melon, mango, pear, Japanese citrus, resin, thyme and rue were among the notes our judges detected, woven together with great skill and discernment, and with no note dominating or lacking refinement. On the palate it’s excitingly flavoury in all of the ways the aromas sketched out – yet it’s also soft, complex, textured and hauntingly savoury as well as floral and fruity. 2026 was an outstanding DWWA year for New Zealand Sauvignon, and this layered, high-finesse yet at the same time amply drinkable wine had to see off many competitors to win its place in the Top 50.”

Named after a natural spring that pops up in their Rapaura vineyard there in Marlborough. They’re a name that’s been popping up on the radars of wine scribblers, judges, critics and (most importantly) wine lovers across the world.

This is Rapaura Spring’s “Rohe” series which means territory in Maori. They’ve selected special sites within key sub regions of Marlborough like Dillons Point, Southern Valleys, Rapaura, Awatere and the Blind River, which is where this Sauvignon was produced. This is a sub region well known as being the driest, coolest and most wind swept region in Marlborough.
