Think Sauvignon Blanc, think Marlborough. Right? Well here’s an award winning SauvyB from somewhere different. The mighty Wairarapa!

Drive half an hour or so north of Wellington and you’ll hit the picturesque Wairarapa region, one of NZ’s oldest wine growing areas with history dating back to the late 1890’s. It makes up just 1% of NZ’s wine production but they boast some of NZ’s top producers like Ata Rangi, Dry River and Martinborough Vineyard.

Matahiwi Estate are a hands on, family owned Wairarapa producer and this is their 2021 vintage Matahiwi Estate Sauvignon Blanc. It’s scored 89/100 from Master of Wine Bob Campbell – there’s nothing the Mata with this wine that’s for sure. Bob called this “A vibrant wine with nice purity and energy.”

Packed with juicy, citrus, ripe tropical fruit flavours in a seriously refreshing style – eat your heart out Marlborough.
