“Gewurz” literally means “spice” in German and if you’re looking for the absolute perfect match to spicy Asian food then you’re looking at the right wine!

From the world famous Alsace (pronounced Al-zass) part of France, on the easter border close to Germany, which produces some of the world’s best aromatic wines. Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Pinot Blanc are the wines we’re talking about here when we say aromatic. It’s the rich, dry, spiciness and sheer intensity of flavour that makes wines from this part of the world so famous.

Only Alsace can carve out wines of this calibre – exotic, spicy, complex wines that suit spicy foods, strong cheeses and sweet desserts. Without food it’s also a great aperetif.

If there was a bucket list of wines to try before you die – an Alsacian Gewurz would be on there for sure.
