That’s if you can lay your mits on a bottle, global demand massively outstrips supply every release!
This is the 2021 Craggy Range Sophia release and it’s absolutely no surprise to see it get a near perfect score straight out of the blocks…
97/100 (Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review)
“A blend of merlot and cabernet franc from the Gimblett Gravels district. Beautifully scented wine with intense cherry/berry, dark-fleshed plum, a suggestion of floral and spicy French oak flavours. Well-structured wine with gently mouthwatering acidity and an impressively lengthy finish. Should age well”
5 Stars (Michael Cooper)
“This is Craggy Range’s premier Merlot-based red. Hand-picked from vines averaging 20 years old, the 2021 vintage (5*) is a blend of Merlot (77 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (23 per cent), matured for 17 months in French oak barriques (33 per cent new). Full-coloured, it is weighty and fleshy, with ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, a hint of dark chocolate, excellent complexity and supple tannins. A lovely young wine, savoury, harmonious and Bordeaux-like, it’s already approachable, but well worth cellaring to 2026+.”
Sophia 2021 is 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc aged for 13 months in 33% new French oak. What a wine. Cellar for 10-15 years from vintage.
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
