Corona D’Aragon Special Selection Garnacha Carinena

Spanish red fit for a king! The Kingdom of Aragon were a powerful bunch that ruled all things Mediterranean in the 14th and 15th centuries in places like south-east Spain, Greece and Italy.

Slap a bottle on their dinner table and it had better be good (or off with your head!) – Corona D’Aragon are a premium producer in the Spanish region of Cariñena (one of the oldest wine growing regions in Europe) making some seriously smart Spanish reds, like their 2011 Special Selection Garnacha.

A blend of Garnacha (also known as Grenache) and the Cariñena grape, a popular grape used in north-east Spain and southern France. Hand harvested from 40 year old vines this got an impressive 89 Point rating in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, who said "It is full flavoured, has excellent volume and a pure, lengthy finish. Drink it over the next 5 years. Terrific value".

Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar gave it a whopping 90/100 – "Finishes smooth and long, with lingering smokiness and very good energy."

Throw in a Gold medal from one of the largest wine shows in Europe and you’re getting the idea – this is Spanish red with a step up in class!
