Oh lordy! The winery has slashed the price of their Trophy & Gold winning Saint John Malbec (from the legendary 2013 vintage!) – take advantage while you can!
The guys at Coopers Creek have had great success over the years with some of their more experimental grape types. Malbec is a grape known to love the hot, dry climates of South America (especially Argentina) – Coopers Creek thought they’d have a stab at growing this grape on one of their vineyards in Hawke’s Bay, formerly owned by a dude called St John Yorke.
From the legendary 2013 Hawke’s Bay vintage (some critics and winemakers called it the “vintage of a lifetime“) the long, hot summer was perfect conditions for the Malbec grape. So, they’d they do? Well, pretty bloody well by the list of gongs and critics scores…

That’s off the back of being Cuisine magazine’s number one “Specialty NZ Red” for the previous two vintages as well!
Don’t spill this wine on the carpet – it’s a dense, black inky colour that’ll need more than the Rug Doctor to get rid of the stain! The wine is packed with loads of juicy dark berry fruits, a bit of spice and a silky texture. This is a classy wine and an outrageously good price for a Trophy winning NZ red!
You’ll find beef, lamb or venison in rich sauces will be the best food match for a wine like this.
