Church Road’s wine label celebrating the life of wine legend Tom McDonald (dubbed the “Father of red wine in New Zealand” by some).
Tom was a spotty faced teenager in 1921 when his career in wine kicked off. Over the next 55 years he turned winemaking in Hawke’s Bay on its head, scooping many accolades for his premium, complex Chardonnay and Bordeaux-style reds. You don’t get awarded the Order of the British Empire for nothing you know!
What a dedication they’ve given him! This is a class act year after year – two of the recent vintages have taken Champion Syrah at the Air NZ Wine Awards, while two of the last four vintages have scored an impressive 95/100 by Bob Campbell MW!
Syrah’s going off so if you’re new to this variety it’s seriously time to find out what the fuss is about. Nobody does it better than Hawke’s Bay and this is Hawke’s Bay Syrah at its finest. A fragrant, silky style red with a touch of spice that will leave you grabbing a second glass in a flash!
