Named after the Catalina flying boat that played a key role in the Pacific during World War II. There’s only a handful of them left in the world, including one right there in the Marlborough Sounds and these guys are a part of the NZ Catalina Preservation Society.
The winemaker is Peter Jackson. No, not that Peter Jackson. This guy’s an Aussie from Queensland and he’s learnt his trade in Australia, France and Italy before making Marlborough his home.
This is their 2020 vintage release Catalina Sounds Sauvignon Blanc, strap yourself in and get ready for take-off – this wine is taking off both here and overseas right now! Scoring a whopping 95/100 by Master of Wine Bob Campbell, it also rated as the third highest Marlborough Sauvy from the 2020 vintage (as at March 2021) and a Gold medal at the prestigious International Wine Challenge in London.
