The Bogle family are a sixth generation farming family. The first generation in 1870 moved to California from Tennessee and set about trying to grow cherries, peaches and pears. Sadly that failed for the Bogles, but better (or is that butterier?) things were to follow!
In 1968 after a failed potato crop Warren Bogle (4th Generation) planted 20 aces of vineyards (Chenin Blanc and Petite Sirah) and the family sold the fruit for the next decade to wineries in the area.
Wind the clock forward some 40 odd years and what do the Bogle family thing of how things turned out? “Thank goodness the potatoes failed…” they said.
Honouring that family decision almost half a century ago the Bogle Twenty Acres Chardonnay is a blend of 90% classic barrel-fermented, big, rich, buttery Bogle Chardonnay (aged for 12 months in a mix of French and American oak – of which almost 30% in expensive new oak!) with 10% Chenin Blanc for added fresh, citrus flavours and crisp acidity.
Originally created as an exclusive for the American restaurant scene – some limited stocks have been shipped to the NZ market and here it is!
