Just five minutes drive up the road from the sleepy Hawke’s Bay village of Havelock North is Black Barn vineyards. These guys are so much more than just top notch Hawke’s Bay wine.

Try their wines at the cellar door. Grab a bite at their award winning bistro and ‘love local’ kitchen store. Treat yourself to something at their summer Saturday morning grower’s market. Catch a gig at the outdoor concert amphitheatre. Why not stay the night in one of their sixteen luxury accommodation retreats? And if you really want to fall in love with the place you can tie the knot here too!

It’s why they say you can stay for an hour or two, a day or two or a week or two!

This is their 2024 vintage Black Barn Barrel Fermented Chardonnay and it’s a bit of an icon in the region for those that love their Chardonnays rich and full bodied.

Scoring 5 Stars with Kiwi wine critic Michael Cooper who said “The classy, vibrant 2024 vintage is not identified on the label by sub-region, but recent vintages have been hand-harvested at Havelock North and in the Tuki Tuki Valley. Handled in French oak casks (20 per cent new), it is a light lemon/green, full-bodied wine, with excellent intensity, delicacy and vigour. Refined, it has peachy, citrusy flavours, gentle mealy and biscuity notes adding complexity, fresh acidity and a finely textured, lingering finish. Youthful and very savoury, with a more ‘cool-climate’ feel than many Hawke’s Bay Chardonnays, it’s very ageworthy; best drinking 2027+.”

Drink now to 2032 and remember, bigger, richer, barrel fermented styles of Chardonnay make a great match to white meats and fish and seafood in rich, creamy sauces.
