Wow, wow, WOW! A $20 Central Otago Pinot that will well and truly leaves jaws floored. This is 5 Star, 95/100 rated, certified organic Central Pinot made by…sorry, that bit we have to keep under wraps!
Long story short – this is a $45-50 bottle of premium quality Central Pinot that has been re-labelled as “Bendigo Hills Stone Cottage” to be cleared at the seriously hot price of $19.99.
Make no mistake – this is Central Pinot crafted to sell for much more than $20 and it’s well deserving of its usual price tag of $45-50.
The Bendigo Hills label is made by a winery whose name we’ve been asked to keep under wraps. Probably because they’re listed as one of the “Top Wineries of New Zealand 2025” in The Real Review and made by a super talented young winemaker shortlisted for a big award.
Using hand picked fruit from their organically certified vineyard and aged for 14 months in French oak (25% being expensive new oak!), it’s unfined and unfiltered. In their own words – “The Bendigo Hills are north facing semi-arid slopes growing some of the finest Organic Wines in Central Otago…This Pinot Noir shows the Bendigo typicity of dark fruit density and a seamless palate with gentle mouth coating chalky tannins and a length finish.”
We can’t tell you the name of the vineyard either – one quick Google search of that and their cover would be blown! However under the wine’s original label it’s had the following critic reviews…
5 Stars, 95/100 (Sam Kim)
“Complex and seductive, the enticing bouquet shows dark berry, thyme, toasted nut and game nuances on the nose. The palate is equally impressive with excellent concentration and refined mouthfeel, backed by layers of elegant tannins, making it delectable and sensually appealing. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2035. $45.00”
92/100 (Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review)
“A seductive mix of floral, vanilla and fruit flavours with a seasoning of spice. Soft, gentle wine with a mellow texture and soft structure. Accessible wine that is ready to drink.”
93/100 (Cam Douglas MS)
“Dry, firm and textured with an abundance of fine dusty tannins, backbone of acidity and core fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. Some dried herb and other spices continue to add complexity and length. Well made and ready to drink from late 2025 through 2033+.”
The first case went in the car boot of the boss – the rest is up for grabs. But you’d better be quick!
