Produced by Angove in the McLaren Vale, South Australia. They were formed by a Doctor (Dr William Angove) who moved to Australia from Cornwall in the UK in the 1880s. He believed that good wine was essential for fine health and a sound mind. So there you go, doctor’s orders!
This is what they call their ‘Family Crest’ range so there’s a bit of family pride is on the line whenever they bottle something under this label.
Using fruit from a couple of their McLaren Vale vineyards (Blewitt Springs and Seaview to the north, Sellicks Hill and Willunga to the south) and aged 12-14 months in oak. This latest 2022 release and yet again it’s proven itself to be consistently good bang for buck…
93/100 & Special Value Awards (James Halliday’s Wine Companion)
“This is a label you can reach for with confidence year in, year out, delivering exceptional value for the quality, and this vintage underscores that.”
91/100 (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“A very solid shiraz that will cellar superbly, and presents serious value at the price.”
94/100 (Sam Kim)
“Upfront and richly expressed, the wine shows black/blueberry, rich floral, vanillin oak, and mixed spice aromas”
This is a high quality McLaren Shiraz that’s all black fruits, dark chocolate and spice! A silky smooth, delicious McLaren Vale Shiraz that is good to go now but you’ll be rewarded for tucking some away in the cellar, try up until around 2030.
