It’s a little over twenty years since Craggy Range opened their doors and set about becoming one of Hawke’s Bay and Aotearoa’s most iconic, premium producers. It takes a certain somebody with the nouse, skills (and cash!) to get that off the ground. Not just a somebody, a Peabody.
US Billionaires Terry and Mary Peabody launched the now world famous Craggy Range back in 1998. The state of the art winery sits at the foot of the spectacular Te Mata Peak there in Hawke’s Bay along with their multi-award winning winery restaurant and no expense spared luxury winery lodge and cottage accommodation.
The Craggy Range owner was once known as the “Golden Garbo” for turning other people’s garbage/rubbish into his multi billion dollar fortune through his Aussie waste management business. We can promise you that’ll be the only sentence you’ll ever read with the words ‘rubbish’ and ‘Craggy range’ in it. Craggy boast a world class line-up of wines that deserves every bit of praise they get.
This is a new release Craggy Range Syrah from the 2025 vintage and released due to the extremely low availability of their Gimblett Gravels Syrah label. Think of this as its slightly younger brother – produced from vineyards on the stony old riverbed of the Ngaruroro River.
In Craggy’s own words “Our Hawke’s Bay Syrah is selected from a combination of younger vine parcels and clones that showcase the vineyard’s vibrant, approachable expression. It is more akin to the classic regional style for which Hawke’s Bay is renowned.”
Craggy Range Syrah was aged for 12 months in a mix of French and American oak (18% new) this is the Hawke’s Bay Syrah style known and loved – juicy, bright red and black currant and raspberry flavours with a touch of white pepper. Delish!

Damn, you're looking young for your age!
