Surrounded by the snowy capped Alps the wine region of Piedmont in northwestern Italy looks a little like something from The Sound of Music! This is home to one of the most famous white wine varieties from this part of the wine world – Cortese (pronounced “kort-tay-zay”) and the most famous is Gavi from the namesake town in Piedmont’s southeast.
Gavi’s are best known for being crisp, refreshing, mouth-puckering and bone-dry in style with citrus, lemon-like flavours – this Gavi by Villa Sparina is quite simply first class and one of the very best examples you’re likely to come across!
There’s a reason it’s been dubbed the ‘Chablis of Italy’.
Producers in the region since 1974 with over 70% of their estate vineyards dedicated to producing Cortese and Barbera grapes. All packaged in an amphora-shaped bottle inspired by an ancient Roman relic excavated from the Villa Sparina property during a restoration.
If you’re pairing with food serve it nicely chilled and stick with light pastas, creamy risotto, seared scallops or fish in light and creamy sauces.

Damn, you're looking young for your age!
