The story of one of Marlborough’s oldest producers goes back to the 1980s, a pilot called Mike and his regular flight path to Blenheim airport. With his unique birds eye view Mike noticed a unique patch of land that was frost free even on the chilliest of Marlborough mornings.
Mike and his wife Robyn built a winery on that very site and named it after his mum – Isabel. Initially planting Chardonnay they went on to produce Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Pinot Gris and in 1995 they sent their first shipment of premium Isabel wines to the UK.
This is their Isabel Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Gris from the 2025 vintage and it’s a class act winning Gold at both the NZ International Wine Show and National Wine Awards of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Isabel produce a style of Pinot Gris that we simply love. It’s dry in style but with plenty of rich stone fruit flavours, ginger and spice and an oily texture. A perfect style to pair with freshly shucked oysters or
lobster in a rich, garlic butter sauce.
