Oh we do love to be beside the seaside! Especially if you’re Tim Turvey and Clearview Estate.
Tim’s the chief at Clearview and, as the label suggests, they’re located right there on the beautiful Hawke’s Bay coastline and this beauty of a Riesling is made from two vineyard sites soaking up all that maritime goodness literally across the road.
This 2023 vintage was selected as Buy of the Week and slapped with a Top Value Award by Master of Wine Stephen Wong. Writing for The Real Review he said “A fantastic value (even for riesling)! Matt Kirby and Rob Bregmen have crafted a finely balanced feinherb style at a lighter 11% alcohol which sits in their Coastal range to reflect its Te Awanga subregional origin. This is more giving and shows some tasty tertiary notes already so it drinks like a wine which has been cellared for a couple of years.”
As for the food match Wong reckons you can’t go wrong with a Kiwi classic – “fish and chips by the beach with a generous squeeze of lemon.”
