INCREDIBLE! The king of bang for buck Aussie reds has done it again! Johnny Q Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 has taken out 5 Stars, Best Buy & No.1 “NZ & International Bordeaux Style”.

The judges said “It’s no mean feat to make an approachable cabernet sauvignon but, despite its youthfulness, this cabernet is just that. It’s deeply coloured in the glass with aromas of cassis, currant, smoke and toast on the nose. The palate is well weighted with bold tannins beautifully balanced by the fruit sweetness present. A wonderful example.”

Johnny Q is John Quarisa (the winemaker) and he’s been around the traps making wine for some of the biggest names in the Aussie wine world before he kicked off his own cool little wine label. This is his Johnny Q Cabernet Sauvignon and it’s been a winner year after year after year.

A Gold medal at the International Wine & Spirits Awards 2025 – it’s just yet more bling for this label which has had ridiculously good success on the wine show circuit here and overseas for many, many years now!

Also scoring 92/100 with world renowned critic James Suckling who said “Medium-bodied with velvety tannins. Delicious and silky, with a flavorful finish.”

Johnny Q Cabernet Sauvignon is made using 100% Coonawarra fruit (a region best known for its Cabernet) – it’s a flavour-packed style red, medium to full bodied style and loaded to the gunnels with lush, velvety, juicy red and black fruit and cassis flavours (wine snobs will also tell you to look out for mint, dark chocolate and vanilla!). It is seriously, seriously easy to enjoy!

Quarisa’s motto is “you just can’t take life too seriously” – but you’d seriously have to be a mug to miss out on trying this one. To be honest we reckon some of his competitors must wonder how he does it at such a keen price! Oh and if you’re pairing it with a feed you can’t go wrong with a chargrilled sirloin!
