The French call it “Art de Vivre” – the art of living, the French way of life. And for nine generations (since 1701, thus the name of the wine!) the Coste family have been living life and making wine in the south of France. Their motto is “Focus on what’s important in life: family and friends, sharing and life’s pleasures.”
Rosé is their specialty and the Prestige label is one of their jewels in the crown. In fact, Bernard and Olivier Coste (owners and winemakers at Domaine Montrose) say “Prestige is a vintage of excellence from our most beautiful terroirs.”
One of the world’s most influential wine scribblers Jancis Robinson has big things to say about the Coste family and Domaine Montrose – “The real aristocrat of Languedoc rosé emerged as Domaine Montrose.”
This is what they call a Saignée style Rosé (pronounced “sohn-yay”) which translates “to bleed” as the winemaking process involves “bleeding” off a portion of red wine juice after it’s had contact with the seeds and skins. Saignée styles are typically bolder, more concentrated in flavour and darker in colour. This is Rosé for red wine lovers!
