Mamma mia! This gorgeous, dangerously delicious and insanely well priced southern Italian red is going to steal the hearts of those that love their reds smooth, rich and slightly spicy!

With an incredible 98/100 rating from Italian’s leading wine critic Luca Maroni – it caught our attention when we saw it was up for grabs under the $20 mark. Then we ripped the corked out and tried the wine…wow! A smooth, lush, fruity and full bodied 14.5% red and typical of this style it’s loaded with sun-ripened flavours of dark fruits, cherries, plums, licorice, vanilla and spice!

From Salento in the Puglia region of southern Italy (the bit that looks like the heel of Italy’s boot on a map!) this is a blend of Primitivo and the lesser known Susumaniello. It’s an ancient grape variety making a big comeback in this part of the wine world and translated in the local dialect means “loaded like a donkey” due to its abundant yields. Well, we think that’s what they mean…

All packaged in beautifully presented embossed bottle and landing on your doorstep at just $19.99. This looks and tastes the part of an Italian red that ought to be sitting on shelves for $25-30! Obvious value right here.

Pair it with grilled meats, stews, aged cheeses or how about a Sunday roast lamb with wild thyme and roast potatoes! Buon appetito!
