“Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes” – Jim Carrey. Church Road Gwen Rose
Florence Gwendolen Brown. Or you can call her Gwen. She was the wife of Hawke’s Bay winemaking icon and Church Road legend Tom McDonald.
Gwen is named after the legendary woman behind the legendary man. Tom was a man who seriously loved French winemaking techniques so he’ll have been bloody impressed with this elegant and refreshing Chardonnay from the Hawke’s Bay that is similar in style to a French Chablis with little to no oak influence.
Graciousness.
Wine.
Elegance.
Nature.
Scoring 5 Stars and selected as a “Wine of the Week” in Michael Cooper’s NZ Listener column. “Designed as an “elegant” rather than bold style, this vigorous, savoury wine hits the target while delivering top value. Grown principally at cool coastal sites, it is a distinctive, mouthfilling, complex wine, with excellent depth of vibrant, peachy, citrusy flavours, a subtle seasoning of oak, and a tightly structured, sustained finish.”
An elegant, crisp, dry and refreshing style Chardonnay made by pretty much one of New Zealand’s best Chardonnay producers! Head to the Church Road winery there in Hawke’s Bay and pop your head in their museum. You’ll find a love poem written by Tom for Gwen back in 1971. Aww!
