The story of one of Marlborough’s oldest producers goes back to the 1980s, a pilot called Mike and his regular flight path to Blenheim airport. With his unique birds eye view Mike noticed a unique patch of land that was frost free even on the chilliest of Marlborough mornings.
Mike and his wife Robyn built a winery on that very site and named it after his mum – Isabel. Initially planting Chardonnay they went on to produce Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Pinot Gris and in 1995 they sent their first shipment of premium Isabel wines to the UK.
This is their Isabel Estate Single Vineyard Chardonnay from the 2024 vintage and it’s a class act winning TWO Trophies and THREE Gold medals (off the back of a Double Gold winning 2023 vintage!)…
Trophy Champion Chardonnay (Aotearoa Regional Wine Awards 2025)
Trophy Champion White Wine (Aotearoa Regional Wine Awards 2025)
Gold medal (Aotearoa Regional Wine Awards 2025)
Gold medal (Marlborough Wine Show Awards 2025)
Gold medal (National Wine Awards of Aotearoa New Zealand 2025)
The Isabel Estate team have this to say – “We produce our Chardonnay from the very first vines planted in the north-eastern corner of the estate in 1980. The intensely concentrated grapes result in a wine of elegance, complexity, depth and class. Characters of white nectarine complemented by intriguing gun smoke and flint, vanilla bean and French oak toastiness will delight even the fussiest of Chardonnay devotees.”
