d’Arenberg The Money Spider Roussanne

d’Arenberg are one of the McLaren Vale’s most iconic producers. Heck, you don’t get invited to the table of Australia’s First Families Of Wine without being a bit important. They join legendary names like Henschke, Yalumba, Brown Brothers, Taylors, Tyrells and more.

This is their famous Money Spider – a 100% Roussanne (roo-san) and inspired by the style of France’s Rhone Valley. d’Arenberg have been producing this cool as little white for over 25 years now and well before many people outside of the Rhone Valley had tried this style.

And like a lot of their labels there’s a little story (with eight legs) behind the name Money Spider. The first crop of Roussanne back in the year 2000 was covered in tiny Money Spiders. Although initial reaction was to squash the little critters – a little kindness can go a long way. By the time the 2001 crop came around the Money Spiders had found a new home and the first vintage was released!

A Gold medal winner at the NZ International Wine Show 2025 and 90/100 in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate who said “The 2024 The Money Spider Roussanne is textural and savory, with a plush middle palate and layers of tropical fruit, white flowers and pineapple husk, white pepper, green apple and quinine. Nicely packaged little wine here—neat. Exciting drinking.”

If you like a more full bodied style white like Chardonnay or Viognier, give it a go. Roussanne is a great style to pair with a wide range of fish, seafood, chicken, pork and especially in creamy sauces.
