Verde translates to “Green” but after the way this fizz has thunder bolted through the wine show circuit in recent times they ought to consider calling it “Goldie”.

This is a now famous fizz that’s been filling Kiwi flutes for over 30 years. It’s surely up there as one of NZ’s most awarded sparkling wines over the past while and still under $20?! It’s crazy good value.

The judges said “Gold medal winner for the past three years at the New World Wine Awards, this Verde Brut is consistently excellent and splendidly tasty…Refreshing and creamy at the same time, this will get your taste buds tingling with joy. Kiwi critic Michael Cooper also gave it thumbs up with his 4 1/2 Star review – “Offering great value, the non-vintage wine (4.5*) currently on sale is a Gisborne blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, bottle-fermented and aged on its yeast lees for over 18 months. Light yellow/green, with a fragrant, yeasty bouquet, it has strong, lively, peachy, citrusy, biscuity flavours, showing excellent complexity, considerable maturity, and a sliver of sweetness balanced by fresh acidity.”

Produced from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes in Gizzy the wine’s been aged on lees for 18 months (a technique winemakers use to add richness, flavour and aroma). A bargain priced, Kiwi Champagne look-a-like at price that makes you wonder how on earth they do it!
