Pepperjack Shiraz is a Barossa red that needs little introduction – with a cult following with the Aussie red hardcore and produced by a winery with a massive rep (Saltrams) Pepperjack Shiraz has been a firm favourite on both sides of the ditch for a number of years.
Those that love their reds big, bold and rich won’t be disappointed here. This is what you’d call pretty much the classic modern Barossa style!
Scoring 89/100 with James Halliday’s Wine Companion who said “The Pepperjack has always struck me as a consistent representation of Barossa shiraz presented in a ‘bistro style’. It’s full of plum and black fruits, spice, licorice, dark chocolate and earthy characters that speak of the region, and it’s easy on the wallet. It’s one of those wines where you know what you’re going to get, and it drinks really well. And that’s why it is so popular.”
We’ve always loved this wine with a juicy slab of peppered steak but Richard, the Pepperjack winemaker, has a soft spot for Adam North’s beef cheeks! Wait, what?! Nobody knows this Barossa red better than Richard and nobody knows beef like Aussie chef Adam North, who among other things runs a kick ass steak restaurant in the Yarra Valley!
