The Woodhenge is a massive timber construction outside the Wirra Wirra winery there in the McLaren Vale. It’s a bloody big fence, about 10 tonnes worth! Although calling the Woodhenge a simple wooden fence would be like calling Stonehenge a pile of pebbles!
It’s a nod to the late and legendary McLaren Vale wine figure Greg Trott. He was full of big ideas and bold visions for McLaren Vale wine.
As for the wine, well there’s no sitting on the fence here. With 18 months in oak this is a big, bold, plush McLaren Vale Shiraz that’s jam packed with fruit. It’s a class act that’s for sure.
Awarded a score of 93/100 by James Halliday while local wine know-it-all Sam Kim scored it 5 Stars, 94/100. Sam said “A hugely appealing shiraz from an exceptional vintage…meltingly delicious“. If you’re thinking of chucking a few bottles in the cellar, Halliday recommends peak drinking for this one up until 2028.
