No wonder the dude on the front label is doing a little jig. That’s Dionysus by the way, Greek God of Wine, and star of the front label of Thornbury Pinot Gris. There’s plenty to celebrate about when you’re owned by one of the most successful NZ wineries of all time (Villa Maria) and have access to their vast selection of top vineyards and grape growers all around the country!
This latest 2018 release of Thornbury Pinot Gris is some seriously, seriously good bang for buck Pinot Gris. In fact we’d go as far to say this could well be the best value Pinot Gris you’ll find anywhere right now! It has absolutely, utterly cleaned up on the awards circuit lately, proving it’s no flash in the pan…
5 Stars, Best Buy & No.2 NZ Pinot Gris (Cuisine magazine 2020)
Trophy Champion Pinot Gris (NZ Int’l Wine Show 2019)
Gold medal (NZ Int’l Wine Show 2019)
Gold medal (NZ Wine of the Year Awards 2019)
Yep that’s right. Announced as the No.2 best NZ Pinot Gris in Cuisine magazine’s 2020 Pinot Gris tasting (the No.1 was also a Villa Maria wine – but that’ll set you back $25-30 a bottle) as well as Trophy and Double Gold – absolute stunner!
Winning a Trophy at the NZ International Wine Show is no mean feat (especially for a wine priced at the budget end of the scale!). Described by the judges at the NZ International Wine Show as “Juicy apple and pear weave in and out of the tropical fruit flavours with tingles of ginger and strudel spices adding liveliness and freshness to the beautifully rounded, very moreish and just off-dry finish.”
Made in an off-dry in style from the Waipara region, where Simon (the head wine guy at Thornbury) says there’s heaps to see and do. Why not go whale watching in the Kaikoura, or get a massage at the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools? A rub down will feel all the better with a glass of this citrusy, mouth-filling Gris!
If it’s Asian tonight, like Thai curries or a Chinese chicken dish, then Thornbury Pinot Gris is your wine.
