“Chardonnay’s what made Gisborne famous and one sip of this and you’ll see why”
V for Voysey. Steve Voysey. Once upon a time he was making letters of another kind – like “O” (Ormond Chardonnay) and “P” (Patutahi Gewurz) in his days crafting kick ass wine for one of the big boys, Montana wines.
These day Voysey’s main focus is on his own label, Spade Oak, and quite clearly loving every minute of it. “There is a world of difference between waving goodbye to your fruit as it’s driven away in a truck and seeing things all the way through to a bottle of wine with your name on it.”
Voysey makes wine that Voysey likes to drink. If a vintage isn’t up to scratch, he doesn’t make it – pretty simple really! His ’17 vintage is smooth, creamy and loaded with tropical fruits. It’s like peaches ‘n’ cream baby! Using fruit from the Ormond, Patutahi and Saints vineyards – all iconic areas for making the Chardonnay Voyseys loves to make (and drink).
