Elephant Hill set the bar pretty high when it comes to quality. That might be something to do with their German founders, Roger and Reydan Weiss, that spared no expense in running this state of the art winery located on the stunning Te Awanga coastline.
The Elephant Hill “Icon” range is the absolute pinnacle of wine making at Elephant Hill and only ever released in the greatest vintages. With their meticulous standards you know it has to be better than good, it has to be near damn perfect!
Airavata is the name of the Syrah produced under their “Icon” range and this is from the 2021 Hawke’s Bay vintage and it’s a beauty. So you can imagine what you get when you combine a world class Hawke’s Bay producer with crazy high standards and a great Hawke’s Bay vintage – wine fit for a king! Or a god. Or a king-god of Elephants. That’s what Airavata means in case you’re not down with your Elephant lingo.
Produced using the very best fruit from their Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa vineyards and aged for 22 months in French oak. It’s then held back for two and a half years before release.
The Elephant Hill said this about their latest release – “Hand crafted in small batches, in low volumes, from a selection of only the best grapes, from the best vineyard blocks and aged in the best quality French barrels. These special wines are for collecting and cellaring and will age well in bottle for many years.”
Airavata is a cellar worthy Syrah for all fine wine snobs or wine lovers with deep pockets. Drink now or cellar for 10-15 years from vintage. With only 300 cases produced this is a sought after wine – secure your little piece of Hawke’s Bay wine history.
