One hundred and sixty years and five generations of family wine making – you don’t get to call yourself Australia’s oldest family owned winery unless you’re doing something seriously right. We’re talking about Yalumba, a member of the Australia’s First Families of Wine, the 12 founding family owned wineries across the ditch.

A bloke by the name of Samuel Smith is the Yalumba founder – planting their first vineyard some 170 years ago. It seems only fair they named one of their ranges after him and the Samuel’s Collection is a great intro to the impressive line-up of premium Yalumba wines.

This is the Yalumba Samuel’s Collection Barossa Shiraz and it’s what the Yalumba team describe as their “modern Barossa Shiraz…dark plum, liquorice and anise. The wine is moreish and delicious.”

The Real Review’s Gabrielle Poy agrees. She scored it 90/100 and gave it a Top Value Award, she said “It’s a lovely shiraz…It will also age for a few years. There’s a lot to like at this price.”

As for a wine and food pairing we were salivating reading Yalumba’s recommended Barossa Braised Beef Cheek recipe!
