Vouvray is a white wine made from Chenin Blanc (“shen-nin blonk“) and Vouvray (“voo-vray“) is the region, where it’s produced on the banks of the Loire river. As world famous wine scribbler Jancis Robinson puts it – “Vouvray is Chenin Blanc, and to a certain extent, Chenin Blanc is Vouvray”.
As NZ Master of Wine puts its “Chenin blanc is one of France’s best kept wine secrets. It’s famous for white wine that ages magnificently thanks to a backbone of vibrant acidity. Vouvray is the home of chenin blanc and a good starting point for anyone wishing to explore the joys of a truly great grape variety.”
The Les Lys Vouvray Sec label is a dry style Chenin brought into NZ by another Master of Wine, Steve Bennett, and produced by Caves de Vouvray, a co-operative formed in 1947 producing a variety of Loire Valley wines.
Produced from vineyards on clay-limestone vineyards overlooking the world famous Loire River, the wine is delicious and mouthwatering with a rich texture thanks to six months lees aging…
