The wine’s called Don Ramon Especial Barrica. If you think that’s a mouthful – just wait ’til you try the wine. Don’t worry if you haven’t the foggiest about Spanish wine or what any of it means – just know this is a medium to full bodied, juicy, rich red with velvety smooth tannins. It’s almost impossible not to love – and worth every bit its 90/100, 4.5 Star review by Wine Orbit’s Sam Kim.
Produced by the Aragonesas crew in Campo de Borja, north-east Spain, using Garnacha and Tempranillo grapes (varieties that thrive in the hot plains of Spain!) from vines up to 50 years old. It’s given just three months in oak barrels (“Barrica”) which adds just a touch of complexity to this lip smackingly delicious, silky smooth red.
Heck, the wine even looks flash with its wax seal and red ribbon packaging! Elsewhere right now you’ll find this one for around $20 at full price. Even on special you can pick it up for around the $15 mark and to be fair, that’s good buying. At this silly, silly low price of $12.99 it smashes it out of the ground. There ain’t an Aussie or NZ red that could touch it for the money!
With container loads of new wines on the water from Europe this importer needs precious warehouse space, so they’ve reluctantly slashed the price of one of their most prized, top selling Spanish reds.
Grab a case or two now while you can at this price to see you through winter, into to spring and back into summer. You get the idea. Pure drinkability, yet again from Spain! Really, really smart buying!
