One of the shining stars of the Margaret River region in Western Australia! Brothers David, Mark and Giles Hohnen formed Cape Mentelle (funnily enough named after the nearby cape with the same name) in 1970 and in 1985 started Cloudy Bay in Marlborough, making Mentelle a little bit of a big brother to NZ’s own Cloudy Bay.

Mentelle’s Cabernets are often benchmarked against top Bordeaux from France and this is their ultimate expression of a single vineyard wine crafted from mature, low yielding vines which are actually some of the oldest in the Margaret River!

Make no mistake – this is world class Cabernet that could kick it with the very best! It got Aussie critic James Halliday jumping out of his seat with a whopper 96/100 score and saying “Another excellent wine with neatly compact flavours and definition. Beautiful tannin structure, the palate silky and refined, the cassis, the oak, the spices all dutifully playing their part.”

This is a wine for the serious Cabernet lover or those that are right into cellaring wine for the long term – this has potential to go for 25-30 years!

Good wine like this is made to be enjoyed with Master Chef quality grub. We recommend roasted rack of lamb, parsnips, carrots and rosemary served on Paris mash with a Cabernet jus.
