One of the shining stars of the Margaret River region in Western Australia! Brothers David, Mark and Giles Hohnen formed Cape Mentelle (funnily enough named after the nearby cape with the same name) in 1970 and in 1985 started Cloudy Bay in Marlborough, making Mentelle a little bit of a big brother to NZ’s own Cloudy Bay.

Mentelle’s Cabernets are often benchmarked against top Bordeaux from France and this is their ultimate expression of a single vineyard wine crafted from mature, low yielding vines which are actually some of the oldest in the Margaret River!

Make no mistake – this is world class Cabernet that could kick it with the very best! It has a screed of top scores from the cream of the crop of Aussie wine writers, The West Australian Wine Guide’s Ray Jordon scored it a whopping 97/100 and said “The Cabernets from Cape Mentelle in recent years have reached a new plane of excellent. This is yet another that confirms the place of this producer among the greatest in the region.”

This is a wine for the serious Cabernet lover or those that are right into cellaring wine for the long term – this has potential to go for 25-30 years!

Good wine like this is made to be enjoyed with Master Chef quality grub. We recommend roasted rack of lamb, parsnips, carrots and rosemary served on Paris mash with a Cabernet jus.
