Aging wine in whisky barrels?! What probably sounded like a crazy idea (over a tipple of whisky maybe?) has turned into an amazing new label by Jacob’s Creek – Double Barrel.
This is just the second ever vintage of their Double Barrel Cabernet. What started with selected parcels of Cabernet from Coonawarra vineyards was first aged in traditional American oak barrels before being finished in Irish whisky barrels!
All that talk of oak and barrels doesn’t paint the real deal – this wine’s all about the fruit. We’re talking soft, rich black currant and herbal flavours (that mint like aroma you get in good Cabernet).
Not surprisingly it got plenty of media when released and to date has had some pretty rate reviews to back it up. Top Aussie wine guru James Halliday scored it an impressive 92/100 and said "Warm, flowing, flavour-filled length is impressive; there’s little doubt that good quality fruit is going into these wines.". Drink it now and over the next 3-4 years.
