From a teeny tiny 5.5 hectare site in Central Otago and owned by hometown Kiwi girl Philippa (she grew up on an Otago farm) and her French hubby Yannick. They turned a few heads with the last vintage of this wine which took out Cuisine magazine’s No.1 Chardonnay spot, the ’14 is here and it’s just the fourth ever vintage produced by these guys.
Everything about Domaine Rewa is Aotearoa with a French twist – from the name (Rewa is Philippa’s Granny) to the style of wine. Philippa instructed her winemaker to make her Chardy in “a subtle, old world style” which not only kept the Frenchie in the house happy but impressed the Cuisine panel to no end!
This is a great example of what Central Otago, cool climate Chardonnay is all about. Dry in style with stone fruit and citrus flavours, it’s the perfect style to be serving with fresh seafood and shellfish dishes.
