Spy Valley Chardonnay

I Spy with my little eye...

Spy Valley Chardonnay

2022, Marlborough New Zealand
  • The winery neighbours the Waihopai spy bases (they look like massive over sized, misplaced golf balls)
  • "A consistently attractive, top-value wine" (Michael Cooper)
  • Hand picked, barrel fermented, oak aged

You may know Spy Valley wines from the over sized, misplaced golf ball looking structures neighbouring the winery. But they are in fact a satellite communications monitoring station (yes – a real spy base!) right there in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough.

Thank goodness they haven’t got hold of Spy’s secret! Not only does Spy Valley produce some pretty smart reds but they consistently produce some absolutely white wines! Their Chardonnay has always been reliable, which is why Michael Cooper calls it “A consistently attractive, top-value wine.”

Their 2022 release is a hand picked, single estate wine, barrel fermented and oak aged for nearly a year. It’s got citrus and stone fruit flavours with a smooth, creamy finish. Match with chicken meals or those pasta dishes with creamy sauces.
