- Made by Scottish born, Spanish based Master of Wine Norrel Robertson (he learnt a trick or two here in NZ)
- Grenache Shiraz blend from Spain
- Only 5000 cases produced worldwide
"El Escocés Volante" aka The Flying Scotsman. Born in Scotland but plying his trade in Spain. He studied Post-Grad Viticulture in New Zealand and he's the only Master of Wine based in Spain (the world's 3rd largest wine producer).
Norrel Robertson is the winemaker who learnt a trick or two here in Aotearoa before he went on to churn out these world class wines.
Predominantly made up of juicy Grenache (about 70%) and dark, peppery Shiraz (25%) - a wine that's purple in colour and picked from vines that are 70-100 years old. Wine writer Robert Parker was head over heels with it - calling it a "hedonistic effort".
This one will need need big, rich red meat dishes but boy will you be rewarded for it! Will drink well over the next 6 years.
