- A Bordeaux style Merlot blend
- From the spectacular Man O' War vineyards on the eastern side of Waiheke Island
- 4 Stars - Michael Cooper's Buyers Guide 2012
If you haven't visited the eastern end of Waiheke Island, you're missing out big time! The Man O' War vineyards are some of the most picturesque you'll find anywhere in NZ.
The quality of the wines these guys produce back up exactly why Waiheke is getting such a good rep overseas.
In 1769 Captain Cook saw the coastline's potential for timber for the Royal Navy (thus the wine's name). In 1993 the family behind this range of wines planted their first vines.
A Bordeaux blend predominantly of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, but with Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot in the mix too, results in this big, rich ripe number. It'll warm the cockles over winter for sure!
