Sacre Bleu! We’ve had a few Frenchies in our time (wine that is) and this Rhone Valley red has regularly delivered good value.

If you’re new to Cotes du Rhone let’s bring you up to speed eh? From the Rhone Valley in the south of France “Cotes-du-Rhone” is one of the most famous styles of French red, it’s a blend of Syrah and Grenache (and sometimes other grape varieties – like a splash of the little known grape Carignan in this one) and is loved all over the world for it’s medium bodied, spicy, warm hearted style and all year round drinkability.

From a village winery in the Rhone valley (on the right bank nestled between the towns of Orange and Avignon for the wine geeks out there) and produced from 35 year old vines. Winemaker Bernard Schurr has named the wine after the small courtyards in the village – aka Les Courtilles.

A great style with or without food – if you’re looking for the ideal match with grub you can’t go past pizzas, pastas and slow cooked red meats. Or how about going a La Francais and whipping up a Beef Bourguignon? Bon appetite!
